KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Alex Dawson, a senior from Decatur, Tenn., and a four-year member of the rowing team, recently graduated with a degree in audiology and a minor in English.
Â
Named to the Big 12 All-Conference Rowing Team in 2018, Dawson powered the 2V8 to a second-place finish in the grand finals of the Big 12 Championship with a time of 6:53.670. Earlier that season she was part of the 1V8 that posted a third-place finish at the San Diego Crew Classic. Most recently, she rowed in the 2V8 that finished fifth at the Women's Sprints in Worcester, Mass.
Â
Also a standout in the classroom, Dawson was named a 2018 CRCA National Scholar Athlete and has twice been named to the Big 12 Academic All-Conference Team.
Â
Dawson, a first-generation college graduate, doesn't plan on stopping with just one degree. This fall she will be attending the University of Tennessee Health Science Center where she will pursue a clinical doctorate in audiology.
Â
"Graduating from The University of Tennessee is special to me as a first-generation college student and a lifelong Vol fan," said Dawson. "The opportunity to not only attend UT but to also be a Lady Volunteer has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will forever be thankful for."
Â
If you could have dinner with three people (living or dead), who would you pick? Anthony Bourdain, Maya Angelou, Eleanor Roosevelt. If they are not available: Kristen Freeman, Gina Michael, and Kirsten Girard
What has been the most beneficial piece of technology to date? The internet, the wifi, and the coffee machine in that order
What did you aspire to be when you were younger? Dorothy off of the Wizard of Oz, but when that didn't work out I wanted to be a lawyer.
