Vols Remain in Top Five at NCAA Regionals after 36 Holes

Tennessee is tied for the final spot to advance to the NCAA Championships with one round to play
ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Tennessee men's golf team is tied for fifth after 36 holes of play at the NCAA Regionals.

As a part of the four-way tie for fifth, they are currently in position to advance to the NCAA Championships as the top five teams from each regional move on to be a part of the 30-team championship field in Fayetteville, Ark.

Tennessee enters the final round tied with SMU, Memphis and Nevada for the final spot in the NCAA Championships at 17-over through two rounds. It are also just three strokes back of No. 22 Liberty for fourth place on the leaderboard.

Junior Rhys Nevin remains in contention for the individual title as he enters the final round just five strokes off the lead. He sits at 1-over par for the week and tied for 15th on the leaderboard, carding the low round for the team in the first two rounds of the tournament. The Cheshire, England native turned in a score of 72 (+1) on Tuesday.

Nevin remains near the top in the field in birdies made as his seven this week tie him for sixth in the field while the junior also is tied for third in the field in par-3 scoring at 1-under through two rounds.

Redshirt sophomore Tyler Johnson climbed up one spot on the individual leaderboard Tuesday after shaving a stroke off his opening round. Johnson fired a second round 74 (+3) to move into a tie for 41st, individually.

Redshirt junior Nolan Ray also carded a 74 (+3) and is tied with junior Brayden Garrison for 34th on the individual leaderboard.

Tennessee will tee off the final round tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. ET. The Vols will be paired with Liberty (+14) and SMU (+17) who are in fourth and tied for fifth, respectively.
