Tennessee takes part in final regular season tournament of the season in Sunset, S.C.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee women's golf team travels to Sunset, S.C. for the Clemson Invitational this weekend.
The field features 18 teams with the Lady Vols entering as one of six Southeastern Conference teams in the final event of the regular season. The field includes five top-25 teams in No. 5 Florida State, No. 7 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Auburn, No. 17 Virginia and No. 18 Michigan State.
Tennessee enters this weekend ranked as the No. 37 team in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
The Lady Vols are coming off a sixth place finish at the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational where they had three players place inside of the top 20 on the leaderboard. They were led by junior Micheala Williams who completed her fourth top-25 finish and third top-10 finish in four events this spring.
Five of her six rounds in the 60s have come this spring as Williams now leads the team with a 73.21 stroke average while also leading Tennessee with nine rounds of par or better this season.
This marks the fourth straight season the Lady Vols have played at the Clemson Invitational as this will be Williams third time playing in the event. She finished tied for 32nd in the tournament last season, leading the field in par-3 scoring with an average of 2.75 on the course's four par-3 holes.
This will be the last tournament of the season before heading to Birmingham for the SEC Championships which start on April 17th.
Tomorrow's first round is scheduled to start at 9:24 a.m. (ET) at The Reserve at Lake Keowee. Tennessee will be paired with Texas A&M and LSU, teeing off of hole No. 1.
The Lady Vols' Lineup
Micheala Williams
The Athens, Ala. native is coming off her third top-10 finish in four events this spring, placing eighth at the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational the last time out. This spring Williams has stroke average of 70.91 which is the best mark on the team by more than a stroke.
Ariana Macioce
The senior was one of three Tennessee players finish in the top 20 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. With the top-20 finish, Macioce has now placed in the top 20 in the last seven events, dating back to Starmount Classic in early October.
Mikayla Bardwell
Bardwell, who has played in the Tennessee lineup in every tournament during her freshman campaign, enters the Clemson Invitational tied for the team leads with five top-10 finishes this season while also ranking second in stroke average at 73.29.
Waverly Whiston
Whiston has five top-25 finishes this season and a pair this spring. The sophomore currently ranks third on the team in counted rounds as Tennessee has counted her score 19 times in 22 rounds played this season.
Malia Stovall
The freshman enters the lineup for the first time this spring after playing in two events as an individual. Stovall has finished inside of the top 10 the last three times she has been in the lineup including her first collegiate win at the Starmount Classic.
Lady Vols' Individual
Mariah Smith
Smith, who is coming off of the Augusta National Women's Amateur this week, will compete in the tournament as an individual. So far this spring, Smith has two top-25 finishes including her first collegiate win at the FAU Winter Warm Up.
