Senior Feature: Gina Michael

Senior Gina Michael, a biochemistry and molecular biology major from Dublin, Ohio, is wrapping up a four-year career at UT. As a freshman, she sat third seat in the 2V8+ boat that earned a third-place finish at the Big 12 Championship. In her junior campaign she was a part of the 2V8 crew that posted wins over Kansas and Kansas State at the Big 12 Double Dual, and she posted a second-place finish with the 2V8 in the Grand Finals of the Big 12 Championship. Most recently Michael rowed in the 1V8 at the San Diego Crew Classic, taking fourth in the second final of the Women's Collegiate Varsity Jessop-Whittier Cup with a time of 6:59.225.

A member of the SEC Academic Honor roll in each of her three seasons thus far, Michael earned a spot on the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association's (CRCA) National Scholar Athlete list in 2018 and was named to the Big 12 Academic-All Conference First Team as a sophomore and junior.

After graduation Michael plans to take a gap year to work before applying to medical school.

You're stranded on a desert island. What teammate would you take with you and why?
Pari Baker because she is an animal science major and would know a lot about all of the animals and plants on the island and could keep me alive.

Best part about your hometown:
We have a field of corn made out of statues... because Ohio.

If you were given large acres of land, what would you do with it?
Build a dog sanctuary for all the strays in the shelters.
