Senior Feature: Katie Lance

Senior rower Katie Lance, a civil and environmental engineering major, is a four-year member of Tennessee Rowing. In her first season she sat in the bow seat of the 3V8 which took sixth place in the grand finals of the Big 12 Conference Championship. The following season she stroked the 2V4+ to a second-place finish at the San Diego Crew Classic with a time of 7:46.721. As a junior, Lance earned a first-place finish with the 3V8 at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational and placed fourth in the 2V4 at the Big 12 Championship.
Over the course of her academic career, Lance has earned a substantial number of honors. A three-time SEC Honor Roll and Academic All-Big 12 Rowing Team member, she was awarded the Chancellor's Citation for Extraordinary Academic Achievement earlier this year. Additionally, she was the recipient the 2019 Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers scholarship and the 2018 Tennessee Road Builders Association scholarship.
Following her graduation, Lance plans to attend graduate school and earn a master's in environmental engineering.

My hometown is Johnson City, Tenn., and the best part about it is Pal's.
How did you get your name?
I was named after my great aunt Hattie Kate. Katie is the combination of Hattie and Kate.
One random fact that amazes you each time you think of it?
That there are people in this world that still do not have access to clean water to drink.
What did you aspire to be when you were younger?
An art teacher but then I took my creative energy along with my love for science and became an engineer.
Favorite place you've ever visited:
The Bavarian Alps in Germany
