KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Kirsten Girard, a recreation and sport management major from Seattle, Wash., is concluding a stellar career on Rocky Top. Girard has rowed in the 1V8+ at the Big 12 Championship in each of her three seasons, and as a junior she and her crew finished first in the 1V8 C Final at the Clemson Invitational, an accomplishment that landed them Big 12 Boat of the Week accolades. She has competed at the Head of the Charles Regatta on three occasions, most recently as part of the crew that made it to the podium in the Women's Club Four event, finishing second out of 53 teams.
Girard was also a standout in the classroom, making the SEC Academic Honor Roll all three years.
With an abundance rowing accomplishments to be proud of, Girard picked a relatively recent one as the highlight of her career.
"(It was) earning a second-place finish at the Head of the Charles Regatta this year with my teammates," said Girard.
While Girard's time in Knoxville is ending, she doesn't plan on straying too far from the water.
"I am going to be attending the Institute for Rowing Leadership in Boston in hopes of becoming a collegiate rowing coach," said Girard.

I would take Pari Baker with me because she knows a lot about animals and trees and would help keep me alive.
If you could have dinner with three people (living or dead), who would you pick?
Beyonce, Barack Obama and Earl Thomas.
What did you aspire to be when you were younger?
A fighter jet pilot.
