April 15, 2019 | Baseball
Junior pitcher Garrett Stallings was named SEC Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee junior right-handed pitcher Garrett Stallings was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Â
Stallings is the second Vol to earn conference pitcher of the week honors this season, joining fellow junior Zach Linginfelter, who won the award back on Feb. 25.
Â
Stallings had arguably the best start of his Tennessee career in Friday night's series-clinching victory over No. 2 Georgia. The Chesapeake, Va., native threw his first-career complete-game shutout to lead the Big Orange to a 3-0 victory over the Bulldogs.
Â
Stallings scattered five hits and struck out five while issuing just one walk. He did not allow a single runner to reach third base and retired the final seven batters of the game to improve to 6-2 on the season. Stallings was extremely efficient, recording 10 one-pitch outs and five two-pitch outs on the night. His six wins are tied for second in the SEC while his 1.88 earned run average is the best on the team and ranks eighth in the conference.
