Tennessee Drops Road Match to Texas A&M, 6-1

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The 25th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team fell on the road, 6-1, to No. 28 Texas A&M on Saturday.
Tennessee (10-3, 1-2 SEC) began the match with Scott Jones and Adam Walton picking up a 6-2 victory on court two in doubles, defeating the Aggies' Valentin Vacherot and Austin Abbrat. However, Texas A&M won on courts one and two, 7-5 and 6-4, respectively, to win the doubles point.
Rain moved in and halted action for an hour and forty-five minutes during singles play, but the action picked back up, fast and furious once play resumed.
Timo Stodder, the nation's 59th ranked player in singles, picked up Tennessee's lone point on the day with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 victory over Juan Carlos Aguilar. On court two, No. 93 Walton saw his nine-match win steak come to an end with a 6-4, 3-6, 2-6 defeat to No. 120 Hady Habib.
Scott Jones took the 38th-ranked player in the nation, Vacherot, to three sets but ultimately fell 7-5, 3-6, 3-6 at number three. At court number four, Preston Touliatos fell to No. 58 Barnaby Smith 3-6, 1-6.
Luca Wiedenmann moved up to court five against Texas A&M after winning his previous three matches at number six. Wiedenmann lost the first set 6-1 but bounced back in the second, winning 6-4. However, the Aggies' Noah Schachter took the third set 6-3, ending Wiedenmann's win streak.
Pat Harper returned to singles action for the first time since February 3 and faced off against Alex Vedri. It was a close two set battle on court six but Verdi emerged victorious 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) over Harper.
The Vols return to Knoxville having gone 1-1 on the weekend, picking up a win on Thursday against No. 24 LSU, 4-3.
Texas A&M (10-3, 4-0) picks up its seventh consecutive victory and moves to 5-1 at home this season.
UP NEXT: The Orange and White return to the friendly confines of home for three-straight matches, beginning on Wednesday with No. 11 TCU at 11:30 a.m. On Friday, the Vols welcome No. 29 South Carolina to Knoxville before rounding out the week with ninth-ranked Florida on Sunday.
