Vols Overcome Rebels to Win, 4-2, on the Road

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 19-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team notched another conference victory on the road against a 33rd-ranked Ole Miss, winning 4-2, at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
Tennessee (12-6, 3-4 SEC) didn't back down after dropping the doubles point to begin the day, showing grit to battle back and take four singles matches. All four wins were in two sets.
"This was a resilient win for the team," head coach Chris Woodruff said. "They showed real fight to come back and take the match, but we're already looking forward and have to continue to focus and improve."
Sixty-sixth ranked Timo Stodder was the first Vol off the court as he cruised to a, 6-4, 6-1, triumph over No. 70 Tim Sandkaulen on center court. Just as quickly on court five, Preston Touliatos defeated Finn Reynolds, 6-2, 6-2.
The quick singles victories from Stodder and Touliatos erased the early deficit, giving Tennessee the lead, 2-1.
Scott Jones took down Karlo Kranic on three, 6-2, 6-2, to edge the lead to, 3-1, for the Vols. Ole Miss gave one last gasp as Simon Junk won at six over Andrew Rogers, 7-5, 6-1, but No. 87 Adam Walton knocked off Filip Kraljevic, 6-4, 6-3, to clinch the match, 4-2.
On court four, Luca Wiedenmann had won the first set 6-4 and was leading 5-1 in the second went the match was clinched, going unfinished.
It's the Vols fourth victory over a ranked opponent this season and the third such win on the road.
Individually, Walton continues to impress with his play as he improves to 13-2 in dual matches and is 5-1 in league play. Additionally, the sophomore has won four of his last six matches with one match going unfinished.
UP NEXT: The Orange and White return home on Friday, March 29 for a date against Auburn before hosting Alabama and Mercer in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 31. The match against Auburn is slated for a 6 p.m. first serve from Barksdale Stadium.
