KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee rowing team will kick off the 2019 championship season at the eighth annual Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational (ORCI) on March 16-17 at the Melton Lake Rowing Venue in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
The Lady Vols are making their fifth appearance at this regatta, entry to which is by invitation from the University of Louisville women's rowing program. Other teams competing are Notre Dame, Clemson, Virginia, Yale, Indiana, Alabama, Miami, Minnesota, Tulsa and Wisconsin.
In the first session of the day Tennessee will face off against Yale and Clemson in the 1V8, 1V4, 2V8, 2V4 and 3V8/N8 races beginning at 9 a.m.
In the afternoon UT will race against Tulsa and Minnesota in the 1V8, 1V4, 2V8, and 2V4 events beginning at 5:32 p.m. The Lady Vols' 3V8/N8 will match up against Indiana and Minnesota at 5:48 p.m. UT's final race of the day will be the 2V4 scheduled for 6:04 p.m.
On Sunday Tennessee will begin racing at 9:48 a.m., matching up against Notre Dame and Miami in the 1V8, 1V4, 2V8 and 2V4 events. UT's 3V8/N8 will square off with Notre Dame and Minnesota at 10:04 a.m.
Tennessee is coming off a fall season highlighted by an appearance at the Head of the Charles Regatta in which UT earned a second-place finish in the Women's Club Four and a ninth-place finish in the Women's Championship Fours. Additionally, the Lady Vols put five boats on the podium at the Secret City Head Race in Oak Ridge.
