KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee travels down to Auburn, Ala., for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships as divers from around the region compete for positions at the NCAA Championships.
The meet runs Monday through Wednesday at Auburn's Martin Aquatics Center. Admission to the Zone Diving Championships is free and live scoring will be available on Divemeets.com
There are 55 women and 42 men slated to compete over the three days, representing 13 schools. Teams participating include: Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, Florida, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Miami, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Competition starts at noon ET/11 a.m. CT Monday and Tuesday with 1-meter springboard events, followed by 3-meter in the afternoon and evening. The platform competition begins Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT.
Tennessee is sending six divers, Ana Celaya Hernandez on the women's side and Will Hallam, Keegan Richardson, Nick Rusek, Matthew Wade and Colin Zeng on the men's side.
Zeng has won two NCAA platform national titles (2016, 2018) and is the defending champion in the event. The redshirt senior is the only returning Vol to advance to nationals out of the Zone Championships last season.
"The NCAA Zone B diving meet will be a highly competitive and pressure packed event," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "With many of the nation's top men and women vying for the precious few spots available to move forward to this year's NCAAs in Austin, Texas. I'm proud of our six divers, all of whom I expect to be in the mix to punch their ticket to the big dance. This meet is all about consistency so we just need to get up and do one dive at a time to move on."
To advance to the NCAA Championships on the women's side, a diver must place either top-9 on the 1-meter, top-8 on the 3-meter or top-6 on the platform. If they qualify in one event, they only have to place top-12 in the other events to compete in those at the NCAA Championships. For the men, they must finish top-6 on the 1-meter, top-7 on the 3-meter or top-9 on the platform. The same top-12 finish rule applies to them.
