Mariah Smith Named SEC Women's Golfer of the Week

The sophomore captured her first collegiate championship last week at the FAU Winter Warm Up
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – University of Tennessee sophomore Mariah Smith garnered Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Smith claimed her first individual title of her collegiate career last week at the FAU Winter Warm Up. The Clarksville, Tenn. native finished 7-under-par over the two rounds, led nearly the entire tournament en route to her first collegiate title.
After firing a collegiate-low of 67 in the opening round on Monday, Smith edged out teammates Micheala Williams and Waverly Whiston by a stroke to win the individual crown, carding a final round 70 (-2).
She was the second individual champion for Tennessee this season as freshman Malia Stovall won the Starmount Classic during the fall season.
Smith helped the Lady Vols win in Boca Raton, Fla. by 41 strokes, the largest margin of victory in program history, edging the previous record set at the 2006 Dr. Donnis Thompson by one stroke.
She leads the teams with seven rounds of par or better this season including one in the first round in the Westbrook Invitational where she finished tied for 48th this week.
