#18 Lady Vols Earn Top Five Finish at Huntington Bank Collegiate

DALLAS – The No. 18 Tennessee women's golf team wrapped up the Huntington Bank Collegiate on Tuesday with round three contested at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
The Lady Vols carried momentum from Monday's second round into Tuesday, carding their second consecutive 7-under-par round of 281 in round three. At a final tally of 11-under-par, the Lady Vols finished in fourth place among a strong field of 17 teams. Tennessee has now placed in the top five in eight of its nine tournaments this season.
Oklahoma State earned the team title on Tuesday afternoon with a final score of 25-under-par, finishing three strokes ahead of tournament host and runner-up SMU. No. 15 UCLA was the only other team to finish ahead of the Lady Vols at 18-under-par. Notable teams Tennessee finished ahead of in the event were No. 13 UCF, No. 23 Oklahoma, and No. 25 Arizona.
Sophie Christopher continued her good form in round three, notching Tennessee's best overall individual finish at 6-under-par. The sophomore carded the lowest 18-hole score of her collegiate career on Tuesday, firing a 5-under-par 67 to tie for the 22nd lowest round in program history. Christopher totaled six birdies to just one bogey in round three, securing a tie for sixth place among the field of 91. It is the second-best individual finish of her collegiate career, behind a first-place finish in her previous outing at the Georgia State Invitational.
Kyra Van Kan joined Christopher with an impressive final round of her own on Tuesday. The sophomore posted a 4-under-par 68 highlighted by an eagle at hole No. 14, in addition to three birdies on the day. At 4-under-par overall, Van Kan closes the tournament tied for 12th place, earning her fifth top 15 placement of the season.
Kaopan Thapasit wrapped up a solid outing with an even-par 72 in round three. The freshman balanced out three birdies with three bogeys on the day to end the event at 1-under-par overall. Now up to 11 rounds of par or better this season, Thapasit leaves Dallas with a joint 17th place finish.
Madison Messimer posted the final countable team score for Tennessee in round three. The South Carolina native carded a 2-over-par 74 to conclude the tournament at 1-over-par. Messimer closes the Huntington Bank Collegiate tied for 26th place, narrowly missing the top 25 for just the second time this season.
Next up for the Lady Vols is the SEC Championship at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. Stroke play rounds are set for April 17-19, followed by match play quarterfinals and semifinals on April 20, and the match play championship on April 21.
