Lady Vols look to build on FAU Winter Warm Up victory in second tournament of the spring
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee women's golf team plays in its second tournament of the spring season at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.
The field features 16 teams with the Lady Vols entering as one of 14 Power-5 programs participating in the event. UT is joined by fellow Southeastern Conference schools in Missouri and Mississippi State.
This will be the second time in program history the Lady Vols have played at the Westbrook Invitational. The only other time came in 2015 when UT won the tournament while AJ Newell earned medalist honors.
Tennessee will look to build off of its school-record 41-stroke victory last week at the FAU Winter Warm Up in Boca Raton, Fla. The win is the second of the season for the Lady Vols as a third would tie the program record for team wins in a season.
UT also had it second individual winner last week as sophomore Mariah Smith claimed her first individual title as a collegiate, carding a 36-hole score of 137 (-7) to edge teammates Waverly Whiston and Micheala Williams by a stroke.
With Whiston and Williams tying for second on the leaderboard, the Lady Vols had the top-three scores on the course. In all, five Tennessee players finished in the top 10 last week with all five returning this week to the lineup. Freshman Malia Stovall will be competing as an individual at Westbrook Village Golf Club.
