Vols Wrap Up Auburn Invite
December 19, 2019 | Swimming & Diving
AUBURN, Ala. – The Tennessee diving team wrapped up the Auburn Invitational Thursday with a solid showing on men's platform at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
Junior Keegan Richardson performed well on tower, finishing fourth with a score of 308.55, qualifying him for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
"Keegan turned in a strong performance after starting a little slow," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "His first three dives were a little off but he bounced back extremely well on his final three to place fourth, but more importantly, get his scores for zones. I am very pleased with his results today."
Freshman Nick McCann was the only other Vol in competition Thursday and placed 14th with a final score of 228.00.
"Nick did a solid job today," Parrington said. "He is still young and adjusting to the environment and tougher competition, but did a lot of good things this week that will help him down the road this season and moving forward in his career."
Tennessee will return to Auburn in February for the 2020 SEC Championships and used this week to become acclimated to the environment, the boards and get a feel for how the SEC Championships will run.
"We accomplished a lot this week and used this as an opportunity to compete in the facility where we will fight for a championship in a couple months," Parrington said. "We did a lot of training here as well, maybe more than anyone else and were able to really focus on ourselves as well as our SEC opponents."
