Holt Earns Platform Zone Scores on Day Three of Auburn Invite
December 18, 2019 | Swimming & Diving
AUBURN, Ala. – Freshman Kara Holt earned her NCAA Zone Diving Championship scores on platform Wednesday during day three of the Auburn Diving Invitational at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
Holt finished eighth in the event with a score of 232.80 but will now compete in two events at the NCAA Zone Championships later this season, having already secured her score on the 1-meter springboard.
"That was a big goal for Kara coming into this competition," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "She had already qualified on 1-meter and wanted to add tower. She had a little slip up on her fourth dive of the day but came back on the final dive, nailed it and got the score she needed to qualify. I am very proud of her and extremely pleased to see her achieve her goal."
Freshman Elle Renner took a big step forward on platform, scoring 209.10. The Henderson, Nev., native had not spent much time on platform when she arrived at Tennessee but Parrington praised her for her confidence and how quickly she is improving in the event.
Junior Ana Celaya Hernandez and freshman Emily Ann Wolfson each competed on platform Wednesday, turning scores of 200.50 and 177.40, respectively.
On the men's side, junior Keegan Richardson and freshman Nick McCann both reached the finals on the 3-meter springboard with Richardson placing ninth with a score of 312.35. McCann was 15th at 238.65.
"Keegan was much more aggressive today on the boards and continued to make little changes that will help him down the road," Parrington said. "For Nick and the whole team, this has been an eye opening meet and a big step up in competition but that is exactly why we are here. The freshmen are adjusting quickly and we are pleased with how they are handling it. For everyone, this is a great chance to get used to the pool and see our SEC competition before we come back here in February for the SEC Championships."
The Auburn Diving Invitational concludes tomorrow with the men's platform dive.
