December 17, 2019 | Swimming & Diving
AUBURN, Ala. – Five members of Tennessee's diving team reached the finals on day two of the Auburn Diving Invitational at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
In the women's 3-meter springboard, Ana Celaya Hernandez and Elle Renner advanced out of prelims and into the finals with scores of 299.00 and 263.80, respectively. In the finals, Hernandez finished 10th with a final score of 292.15.
Renner placed just behind her teammate in 11th with a dive score of 282.50. With her score, Renner qualifies for the NCAA Zone Championships on the 3-meter board.
"It was a huge performance from Elle today," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "She was only six points off from making zones on 1-meter yesterday and was a little down but the way she came back today, to get the score and qualify for zones is very impressive. She was extremely steady, made some corrections from prelims and got the score she needed. I am very proud of her effort, resiliency and performance today."
Emily Ann Wolfson and Kara Holt also competed on the 3-meter board, just missing the cut line for finals with scores of 255.50 and 255.25.
The men's side got in on the action Tuesday as they competed on the 1-meter springboard. All three Vols in competition reached the finals with Keegan Richardson leading the way with a ninth place finish and a score of 270.65. Will Hallam and Nick McCann placed 15th and 16th with final scores of 228.45 and 227.25.
The Auburn Diving Invitational continues on Wednesday with the prelims and finals of the men's 3-meter springboard and the women's platform.
