Two Lady Vols Reach Finals on Day One of Auburn Diving Invitational
December 16, 2019 | Swimming & Diving
AUBURN, Ala. – Two Lady Vols reached the 1-meter springboard finals as Tennessee opened up the Auburn Diving Invitational Monday at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
In a field of 23 divers, Ana Celaya Hernandez and Elle Renner reached the 16-woman final with finishes of fourth and ninth in prelims. In the finals, Hernandez scored 276.30 to place sixth while Renner posted a 259.55 for a ninth-place finish.
Renner added two new dives to her list, performing both during the competition. The freshman set a personal best on 1-meter in prelims before coming out and topping it in the finals.
"Ana was very consistent and Elle used two new dives, both of which will help her down the road," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "In the finals they wound up in sixth and ninth. I was excited to see Elle record career best scores both times out, but there are definitely more points on the table for each of them to grab. Emily Ann was a little out of making the finals and needed to be more aggressive in her dives while Kara struggled a little but I was pleased to see her use a new dive too."
Freshmen Emily Ann Wolfson and Kara Holt also performed Monday, scoring 227.25 and 202.65, respectively.
The competition continues Tuesday with the men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter springboard.
