October 07, 2019 | Men's Golf
Tennessee will take an eight-shot lead into the final round tomorrow morning
COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – Due to weather in the area, the second round of the Intercollegiate at the Grove has been postponed to tomorrow.
The 14-team tournament field will play just one round on Tuesday as the competition has been shortened to 36 holes. Entering tomorrow, Tennessee holds an eight-shot lead over the field with six Vols sitting inside of the top 10, individually.
Redshirt junior Hunter Wolcott will be in search of his second collegiate title tomorrow as he is alone in second place after an opening round 68 (-4). He is just one stroke back of leader, Hugo Hellman of Lamar.
Last season, Wolcott claimed his first individual title at the Hayt, winning by three strokes.
Redshirt junior Tyler Johnson and redshirt freshman Jake Hall, who are playing as individuals this week, are just two strokes back of Wolcott and in a four-way tie for third. Both players fired first round scores of 70 (-2) on Sunday afternoon.
All five of the Tennessee players in the lineup are tied for 16th or better with junior Spencer Cross (T7, -1) and senior Brayden Garrison (T10, E) joining Wolcott in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard.
Tennessee, who was the only team to have a score below par in the first round, will tee off the second round tomorrow between holes No. 1 and No. 5 starting at 10:30 a.m. ET. The Vols will be paired with Lamar (+4), Troy (+4) and Lipscomb (+7) who sit right behind them in the team standings.
