Tennessee Drops Three-Set Match in South Carolina

Tessa Grubbs finished with 12 kills in the road loss to the Gamecocks
COLUMBIA, South Carolina – The University of Tennessee volleyball team dropped a three-set match at South Carolina (15-25, 28-30, 16-25) on Friday night in Carolina Volleyball Center.
The Lady Vols (9-10, 3-6 SEC) were led by a game-high 12 kills from senior outside hitter Tessa Grubbs in the road defeat to the Gamecocks (12-8, 4-4 SEC).
After getting off to a slow start, Grubbs helped the offense come alive in the second set. She led the team in the second set with five kills. Tennessee nearly won the second frame, fighting off three set points before the Gamecocks took a 2-0 with a 30-28 set win.
In the frame, the Lady Vols held South Carolina to just a .196 hitting percentage, forcing the Gamecocks to eight errors in the set.
Sophomore outside hitter Lily Felts nearly recorded her second double double of the season with a team-high 11 digs to go along with eight kills. Felts helped set the tone for the Tennessee defense with eight of her digs coming in the opening set.
Senior setter Sedona Hansen finished the night with a team-high 24 assists while nearly recording a double double with eight digs on the night.
Standout Stat
The Lady Vols face their third ranked opponent in the last four matches when they play No. 13 Florida on the road on Sunday. Last season, Tennessee knocked off Florida in three sets inside of Thompson-Boling Arena.
First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET) at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The match will also air on SEC Network.

Standout Stat
- Sophomore Giana Pellizzon set a new career high with three service aces in the match. Her previous career high of two came last year in a win against No. 16 San Diego on Sept. 8. She tripled her output in aces this season as she came into Friday with just one ace in the season.
- Raquel Perinar ended the night with seven kills on a season-high 26 swings. The sophomore was just two kills off her season high of nine kills.
- Tessa Grubbs has now recorded double-digit kills in 37 of the last 39 matches and is just 72 kills away from entering the top 10 in program history in career kills.
- With eight digs on the night, Sedona Hansen needs just 88 to join the top 10 in program history in career digs.
