Grubbs Named Senior Class Award Candidate

Tennessee is the only SEC school to have players named to the candidate list in the last two seasons
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee volleyball senior outside hitter Tessa Grubbs was named as a top 30 candidate for the Senior Class Award, as announced on Wednesday.
This marks the second consecutive season a Lady Vol has been announced as a top 30 candidate, with Grubbs joining 2018 candidate Erica Treiber.
Tennessee is the only SEC school to have players named to the list in the last two seasons and one of just five programs nationally to have that honor.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
On top of being an All-American standout on the court for the Lady Vols, Grubbs has completed more than 130 of community service in her four years on the Tennessee campus with organizations including Camp Koinonia, a service trip to Gatlinburg for relief, Girls Inc. Tour and more.
As a part of Camp Koinonia, she helped lead the therapeutic recreation camp for special need children, helping oversee and plan activities for campers.
The Tega Cay, South Carolina native also does therapeutic recreation work with Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding (STAR) in the local area. She is set to earn her degree in therapeutic recreation this year.
Heading into the weekend, she leads the team with 4.19 kills per set and has notched double-digit kills in every match this season. Dating back to last season, she has double-digit kills in 31 of the last 32 matches.
She currently ranks 15th in Tennessee history in career kills with 1,176 while also ranking third in the school history with 3.71 kills per set over her four season with the Lady Vols.
Last week, she was named the SEC Offensive Player for the Week for the third time in her career. Grubbs posted 5.00 kills per set during the week with 12 or more kills in all straight-set victories. In the Tennessee Classic finale against North Dakota State, she recorded a career-high .600 hitting percentage, posting a match-high 16 kills in the win.
