KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee rowing kicks off the 2019-20 season this weekend with the Secret City Head Race in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and the Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass.
At the Head of the Charles, UT competes in two events over the weekend. On Saturday, the Lady Vols race in the Women's Club 4+ at 2:02 p.m. and then again on Sunday in the Women's Championship 8+ at 2:49 p.m.
The Head of the Charles is the largest rowing event in the country and features a three-mile head race upstream from Boston University Boathouse to Christian Herter Park. Each race has a rolling start and the crew with the fastest time wins. Last season, the Women's Club 4+ boat placed second out of 51 entries.
In Oak Ridge, Tennessee competes in three different events on Saturday. The novices starts out the day at 11:40 a.m. in the Women's Novice 8+ race with five boats competing. The Lady Vols also compete in the Women's Collegiate 1x with six boats racing at 3:20 p.m. and finishes off the day with the Women's Collegiate 2- featuring four boats at 3:50 p.m.
Last year at the Secret City Head Race, Tennessee put five boats on the podium across two events, the Women's Collegiate 8+ and the Women's Novice 8+.
