KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee swimming and diving team hits the road to face SEC foe South Carolina in a dual meet on Friday as the men and women look to build upon their season opening wins over UNC Wilmington.
Friday's meet begins at 10 a.m. from the Carolina Natatorium, with live results available through sportstiming.com
Tennessee's women's team enters the meet ranked No. 15 while the men are No. 16 nationally in the TYR/CSCAA top 25 poll.
LAST TIME OUT:
Tennessee turned in a strong performance in its season opener at UNC Wilmington as the Lady Vols swept the Seahawks en route to a, 205-88, victory. On the men's side, the Vols took 13 of 16 events, defeating Wilmington, 193-107.
Newcomer Grace Cable put a stamp on the performance as her 3-meter springboard score of, 343.50, vaulted her to fifth all-time in program history.
In the pool, Tess Cieplucha and Mallory Beil took two victories apiece and set new pool records in the 200 breaststroke and 100 butterfly, respectively. The men were led by a two-win day from Alec Connolly as he touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley.
AGAINST SOUTH CAROLINA:
Friday will mark the first time Tennessee and South Carolina have met in a dual meet since Jan. 6, 2017. UT swept the meet as the men won, 189-111, with the women emerging victorious, 155-143, in comeback fashion.
The women trailed the Gamecocks going into the final event but turned in a 1:32.21 200 freestyle relay to win the race and the meet. Senior Erika Brown swam the anchor leg on the relay while fellow senior Meghan Small also enjoyed her last trip to South Carolina, winning the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke.
