September 17, 2018 | Men's Tennis
CARY, N.C. – Former Tennessee men's tennis standout and NCAA doubles champion Hunter Reese captured the Atlantic Tire Championships doubles title Sunday afternoon at the Cary Tennis Park. Alongside former Michigan Wolverine Evan King, the American duo defeated top-seeded Frenchmen Fabrice Martin and Hugo Nys by a score of 6-4, 7-6(6).
Reese/King saved six set points on the way to their fourth title as a professional doubles pairing. The duo owns an 18-1 record overall with ATP Challenger victories on clay (Sarasota, Fla.) and hard court (Cary), as well as ITF Futures wins in Orange Park, Fla. and Middelsburg, Netherlands.
With the win, Reese improved his ATP doubles ranking to a career-best 146th. The Kennesaw, Ga. native has captured three Challenger doubles titles since 2014.
A three-time All-American at Tennessee, Reese was crowned NCAA Champion with doubles partner Mikelis Libietis (Sigulda, Latvia) in 2014. It was UT's first NCAA championship since 1993, when current head coach Chris Woodruff claimed the singles national title for the Vols.
