Fall Ball Underway for Tennessee Baseball
August 29, 2018 | Baseball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee baseball kicks off fall ball at Lindsey Nelson Stadium this week with instructional and individual skill work drills.
"We have been waiting for this week to roll around for quite some time now," head coach Tony Vitello said. "Last year we had yet to hire our entire group so it's actually the first season that our staff as a whole will begin things together."
The Volunteers' full practices will start the last week of September and run through October with the schedule featuring an exhibition game against Georgia State in Atlanta on October 7. Tennessee will then cap the fall with the Orange and White World Series (Oct. 31-Nov. 2).
"We have a lot of new faces in the program and are ready to get to work," junior right-handed pitcher Garrett Stallings said. "This fall we are going to get better at executing on the field and lead that into the spring season.
"It is going to be a crucial time for us in terms of getting stronger physically and mentally. You can expect to see a very competitive group that strives to make each other better each day."
UT returns 22 players from last year's squad, including 10 starters (four pitchers/six positional players).
"There is a buzz around campus right now with all of the new things going on in the athletic department. We hope to feed off it as well as contribute to it," Vitello said.
