Vols drop preseason exhibition to Crimson Tide, 1-0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Despite outshooting Alabama 17-15, No. 25 Tennessee fell 1-0 in its lone exhibition match of the season Friday night at Regal Soccer Stadium.
Crimson Tide junior Taylor Hubbard broke through in the 85th minute, scoring the match-winning goal on a shot from 10 yards out inside the left post.
Tennessee striker Khadija Shaw led all players with six shot attempts, including one on frame and one off the post. Senior forward Meghan Flynn added two shots - both on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Shae Yanez collected seven saves for the Vols across 79 minutes of action. Redshirt-freshman keeper Charli Pogany played for the remainder of the contest and allowed one goal.
In the first half, Alabama held the offensive edge with eight shots compared to five for Tennessee. Yanez posted four saves for UT in the first 45 minutes.
The Vols recorded 12 shots in the last 45 minutes with three on goal.
Additionally, Tennessee had six corner kicks throughout the competition while Alabama had two.
UP NEXT: Tennessee officially opens the 2018 season Thursday, Aug. 16 with a home match against the St. John's Red Storm. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Regal Soccer Stadium.
