Rackham Adds Gearhart as Volunteer Assistant Coach

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- University Tennessee head women's volleyball coach Eve Rackham has announced the hiring of Heather Gearhart as a volunteer assistant coach.
Gearhart, who played collegiately at North Carolina earned her master's degree in marketing from University of Nottingham in 2017 while serving as the captain of its volleyball team.
"I am excited to add Heather to our staff and welcome her and fiancé Derek Sullivan to Knoxville," coach Rackham said. "We are fortunate to add someone who has high level collegiate playing experience, international experience and real world corporate experience."
There is no doubt she will relate positively to our players and serve as another female role model. Heather has a passion for the sport of volleyball and a bright future in coaching. We look forward to her contributions as we work on building a championship program."
During her time in Chapel Hill, Gearhart helped the Tar Heels make four appearances in the NCAA Tournament including an Elite Eight appearance in 2014. Her Tar Heel team would also take home the ACC Championship in 2014.
In her four year, she appeared in 89 career matches (227 sets), totaling 296 digs, 43 assists and 26 service aces playing along the back row as a defensive specialist and libero.
The Chula Vista, Calif. native earned a place on the ACC Academic Honor Roll all four years at North Carolina receiving a bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science with a minor in coaching education in 2015.
"I'm very thankful that Coach Rackham and the University of Tennessee have given me this opportunity to join the program," Gearhart said. "I'm extremely excited to be a part of this new coaching staff and to help in the next chapter of Tennessee Volleyball. This is a great opportunity to get into coaching at a very high-level, learn from a great staff and be a part of a university with a storied athletic history."
