Tennessee Places Third In Big 12 Championship

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Tennessee put its top two boats on the podium to clinch third place in the Big 12 Championship on Sunday at Melton Hill Lake.
Texas won the event, finishing first in all five grand finals and accumulating 48 team points. Oklahoma took second with 38 points followed by Tennessee with 37 points, Kansas State with 31, Alabama with 23, Kansas with 21, Old Dominion with 10 and West Virginia with 8. Texas advances to the NCAA Championship as the Big 12 automatic qualifier.
The Vols' Alex Dawson, Annie Pelic and Pari Baker were named to the Big 12 All-Conference Rowing Team.
Tennessee's 1V8+ battled with Oklahoma for second throughout the entire race but ultimately couldn't hold off the Sooners, finishing third at 6:44.184. Oklahoma crossed the line a little more than two seconds earlier at 6:41.714, and Texas took first with a time of 6:30.849. Kansas State (6:53.191) finished fourth, Kansas (6:58.489) took fifth and Alabama (7:02.876) was sixth.
In the 2V8+ the Vols edged out Kansas State (6:55.395) and Oklahoma (6:59.310) in the final sprint to take second with a time of 6:53.670. First-place Texas posted a time of 6:37.042. Alabama finished fifth at 6:59.315 and Kansas took sixth with a time of 7:09.900.
In the 1V4+ Texas took first with a time of 7:19.717, followed by Oklahoma (7:30.862), Alabama (7:36.175), Tennessee (7:39.652), Kansas State (7:44.627) and Kansas (7:52.737).
In the 2V4+ Tennessee placed fourth behind Texas (7:36.062), Oklahoma (7:42.595) and Alabama (7:47.482) with a time of 7:51.100. Kansas State, Kansas and West Virginia rounded out the event.
The Vols' 3V8+ made it down the course in 7:08.912, narrowly missing the podium as Alabama took third with a time of 7:08.299. Texas took first at 6:54.992 and Oklahoma was second with a time of 7:07.564. Kansas State, Kansas and Old Dominion took fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
This event concludes the 2017-18 season for Tennessee.
