Vols Advance All Boats to Grand Finals

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Tennessee performed well on day one of the Big 12 Championship, advancing all five boats to the grand finals on Sunday.
The 1V8+ was the first boat in action for the Vols, squaring off against Kansas State, Oklahoma and Old Dominion. Oklahoma won the heat with a time of 6:46.443, and Tennessee was close behind at 6:52.270. Kansas State came in third at 7:02.440 to take the final spot in tomorrow's grand final, and Old Dominion was fourth with a time of 7:15.610.
In Tennessee's second race of the day, the 2V8+ took second behind Oklahoma in a close race. The Sooners made it down the course in 7:01.341 with Tennessee on their heels at 7:03.056. Kansas was third at 7:12.704 and West Virginia took fourth with a time of 7:17.476.
The Vols 1V4+ also took second, making it down the course in 7:53.458. Texas won the heat with a time of 7:31.108 while Kansas State took third at 8:02.520 and West Virginia finished fourth at 8:27.590.Â
In the 2V4+, Tennessee squared off against Texas and Kansas State, taking second behind the Longhorns with a time of 7:52.256. Texas posted a time of 7:41.444 and Kansas State took third at 8:20.274.
In the Vols' final race of the day the 3V8+ took second with a time of 7:20.349. Texas won the heat at 7:01.539, and Kansas State was third at 7:36.297.Â
Tennessee will compete in all five grand final events on Sunday. Racing will begin Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and conclude with an awards ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Three events will be scored to determine the NCAA automatic qualifier from the Big 12 Conference. The most points will be awarded for the results in the first varsity eight followed by the second varsity eight and the first varsity four.
