Tennessee Wraps Up Spring Competition
April 23, 2018 | Volleyball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee concluded its spring season with a win and two matches of splitting sets over the weekend.
The Lady Vols took both sets in a win over UNC Greensboro, 25-18 and 28-26, and then took one set apiece in matches against Wake Forest (25-15, 24-26) and North Carolina (25-15, 23-25).
For the spring as a whole, Tennessee won 14 sets and lost four over the span of nine matches.
"This team has made so many improvements since January, and really embraced the challenge of getting a little better every time we get an opportunity to practice or compete," Tennessee head coach Eve Rackham said. "I think today was a great way to finish the spring and see where we are.
"There is a ton of work ahead but we made significant progress in individual development and team systems."
Over the weekend, the Lady Vols once again tallied more kills than their opponents, recording 78 kills to their opponents' combined 56.
Tennessee had four players with double digit kills, led by redshirt junior Breana Jeter with 16. Seniors Stephanie Spencer and Erica Treiber followed close behind with 15 each, while junior Tessa Grubbs had 12.
The Lady Vols also out-dug their opponents', 96-88, landing six players in double digits. Madison Coulter had 20, Callie Williams added 17 and Brooke Schumacher contributed 16.
Junior Asha Phillips logged 11, as Spencer and junior Sedona Hansen each had 10.
In blocks, Treiber led Tennessee with four, followed by Grubbs, Spencer, Jeter, freshman Emma Schriner and sophomore Olivia Schwamberger who all contributed two each.
For assists, Williams led the team with 36, while Hansen had 34.
