Vols Second, Two In Top Three After Day One at 3M Augusta Inv.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Senior Lorenzo Scalise and sophomore Rhys Nevin each turned in impressive scores, standing among the top-three individuals following Saturday's first two rounds of the 3M Augusta Invitational.

As a team, the Vols sit in second place after carding a 6-under score of 570 (285-285) through 36 holes. No. 16-ranked Illinois leads the 15-team field with a 12-under tally of 564.

Behind Tennessee is Wake Forest at 4-under, while Houston (2-under), South Carolina (even) and Georgia State (even) round out the top five.

The tournament, hosted by Augusta University, is being played at the 7,005-yard, par-72 Forest Hills Golf Club.

Individually, Scalise is in second place, shooting 6-under (69-69--138) on day one. Nevin currently sits in third place at 4-under (67-73--140).

Scalise is searching for his third straight and fourth overall top-five finish this season. Nevin, meanwhile, is on pace for his third top-five finish of the year but first during the spring season. During the fall, Nevin finished in second place two times (The Jackrabbit and East Bay Deli Classic).

Sophomore Jake Meenhorst, who contributed counting scores for Tennessee in each of the first two rounds, was the Vols' third-best golfer on day one, tying for 31st place through two rounds. Meenhorst shot 2-over (72-74--146) for the day.

Sophomore Brayden Garrison used a strong round two, in which he shot 3-under par, to move into a tie for 48th place. Overall, Garrison shot 4-over (79-69--148). His second-round score of 69 was tied with Scalise for Tennessee's best of the round.

Redshirt freshman Sean Wilcox concluded the day at 9-over (77-76--153), tied for 64th place.

Tennessee will close out the final 18 holes of the 3M Augusta Invitational on Sunday, teeing off at 10:10 a.m. ET. Live stats will be available on Golfstat.com.
