Vols Take Care of Auburn, 6-1

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 19 Tennessee picked up a home SEC win on Friday night by defeating Auburn 6-1 at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The Vols (17-5, 6-2 SEC) claimed the doubles point with wins on Courts 3 and 2 to get an early lead over the Tigers (10-13, 0-7 SEC). Nicaise Muamba and Andrew Rogers put on a dominant display with a 6-0 victory before Timo Stodder and Adam Walton took the point for UT with a 7-3 tiebreak win.
Redshirt junior Preston Touliatos got the Vols' second tally on the board by defeating Carles Sarrio on Court 4, 6-1, 6-4. A pair of sophomores were able to clinch the victory for UT, as Luca Wiedenmann earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 and Scott Jones picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5.
The No. 16 player in the nation Timo Stodder earned another victory on Court 1 by taking down Edward Nguyen, 7-5, 6-3 to make it 5-0 in favor of the home team. Freshman Adam Walton made it 6-0 by notching his seventh consecutive win.
While the dominance on the scoreboard would indicate that the Vols had it going early on, according to head coach Chris Woodruff, the closely contested doubles matches served as a wake up call for UT.
"We easily could've lost the doubles point," Woodruff said after the match. "Down a break on two courts, we somehow found a way to stay in there and I think that got us going. Ideally, I'd like to see us start out a little bit quicker, which hopefully will happen against a good Mississippi State team."
