KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 25 Tennessee had its four-match win streak snapped on Friday night as the Vols fell to No. 6 Texas A&M 5-2 at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
Timo Stodder and Adam Walton were able to get the UT (15-5, 4-2 SEC) ahead early in the doubles battle with a 6-1 win on Court 3, but the Aggies (13-4, 5-0 SEC) regained control with a pair of 6-3 victories on Court's 2 and 1 to claim the first point.
37th ranked Patrick Kypson of Texas A&M took down No. 16 Stodder 6-4, 6-2 to increase the Aggie lead to 2-0. Barnaby Smith then defeated Nicaise Muamba on Court 6, before Preston Touliatos fell on Court 3 to No. 49 Jordi Arconada which clinched the match for A&M.
UT got on the board via a 10-8 super tiebreak win on Court 5 by Scott Jones. Walton then followed up with a 10-8 super tiebreak win of his own to salvage a second point on the night for Tennessee.
Despite the loss, head coach Chris Woodruff felt that the team comes away from the match with needed experience that can be built upon.
"We're not gonna win overnight," Woodruff said after the match. "They played well, and we'll get better and keep improving. We've got a lot to play for this season."
