KNOXVILLE, TENN. -- The Tennessee Rowing team will compete in four events at the San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday and Sunday in Mission Bay, Cali.
The Vols will start the day Saturday with the 1V8+ in Heat 2 of the Women's Collegiate Varsity Jessop-Whittier Cup Invitational at 12:32Â p.m. ET (9:32 a.m. PT). They will face off against USC, UCLA, Stanford, San Diego and Texas.Â
Tennessee's 2V8+ will compete in Heat 2 of the Women's Collegiate 2V Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy at 1:32 p.m. ET (10:32 a.m. PT) against Texas, UCLA, Kansas State, Loyola Marymount and UC Santa Barbara.
At 1:48 p.m. ET (10:48 a.m. PT) the 1V4+ will hit the course in Heat 2 of the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+ Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup. They will race against Oklahoma, San Diego, Southern Methodist University and UC Berkeley.Â
The competition will continue on Sunday with the Petite and Grand Finals for each of the three races. Additionally, UT's 3V8+ will compete in the Women's Open Carley Copley Cup, a finals only event, at 5:08 p.m. ET (2:08 p.m. PT) against USC Berkeley, Stanford, San Diego, Kansas State, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara.
This marks the ninth time overall and the fourth consecutive season Tennessee has competed in the San Diego Crew Classic. Last year the Vols' 1V8+ took second in the Grand Finals of the Women's Collegiate Cal Cup, and the 2V8+ placed fourth in the Women's Collegiate 2V8+ Grand Finals. The Vols 1V4+ took first in the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+ Petite Final while the 2V4+ placed second in the finals only Women's Collegiate 4+B.
