Lady Vols Drop SEC Opener at Texas A&M, 4-1
March 02, 2018 | Women's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- No. 17 Tennessee suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night against Texas A&M, 4-1, at Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Lady Vols (12-1, 0-1 SEC) dropped the doubles point despite a 6-4 win by the 56th-ranked duo of Ariadna Riley and Kaitlin Staines and lost the first two courts to finish in singles. UT responded with a win on Court 6, but the Aggies halted any hope of a comeback by taking a hard-fought match on Court 4.
Tennessee's lone win in singles came from Staines, who defeated Dorthea Faa-Hviding in a 7-6 (3), 6-4 match on Court 6. The win marked her ninth consecutive victory in singles to begin her collegiate career.
UT will conclude the weekend at LSU Tennis Complex vs. the Tigers at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. For the most up-to-date information about the Tennessee women's tennis program, follow @Vol_WTennis on Twitter.
