Tennessee Earns Double-Header Sweep Over USC Upstate

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 23 Tennessee took care of business on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of USC Upstate at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The Vols beat the Spartans 7-0 in the first match and 4-0 in the second to improve to 10-2 on the season.
Tennessee was able to set the tone early with two quick doubles wins, as Luis Valero and Preston Touliatos took a 6-2 victory while Adam Walton and Scott Jones won 6-1 on Court 3. UT would carry that momentum into the singles matches, with each player earning a straight sets win. After escaping his first set in a tiebreaker, Scott Jones completed the clean sweep with a dominant 6-0 performance in the second set.
Freshman Adam Walton made his first career appearance on Court 1 in the first match, defeating USC Upstate's Felix Ewers 6-2, 6-3 to improve his record on the year to 16-8.
In the second doubles match, UT's top pairing of Valero and Touliatos got it done again with a 6-2 victory and Andrew Rogers and Nicaise Muamba added a 6-1 win to put the Vols in front going into singles again.
Tennessee was dominant in singles again, not dropping a set to earn the complete sweep for the day. After Valero and Luca Wiedenmann closed out their matches, Scott Jones clinched the Vols victory with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Fernando Bernardes.
NEXT UP: Tennessee begins its SEC schedule with a trip to Columbia, South Carolina next Friday to take on the Gamecocks.
