Woodruff Announces 2019 Signing Class

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee men's tennis head coach Chris Woodruff has announced the addition of three signees for the program's recruiting class of 2019.

Woodruff's second class as head coach features talent from the United States, Portugal and Germany as UT welcomes Jordan Chrysostom, Martim Prata and Finn Stodder to the men's tennis program.

"We're really excited to welcome Finn, Martim and Jordan to the University of Tennessee family," Woodruff said. "It's a very wide-ranging class. Like many years, we have signees from Europe. One thing I'm excited about in this class is that we also have an American coming here."

"All these guys spoke about in the recruiting process how much the team aspect meant to them. As a coach, when you hear 18-and-19 year old kids talking about the team, you get excited. It just makes for a great recruiting class for [assistant coach James McKie] and me."

Won the 2018 Citi Open Wildcard Challenge in doubles, earning a wild card berth into the qualifying round of the ATP 500 event

From Coach Woodruff: "With Jordan, you have this vibrant kid just exuding enthusiasm to play for us. Jordan brings incredible athleticism. He's 6'3" and can flush a basketball no problem. The thing that impressed me about him - he started lowly ranked, and he's kind of maneuvered his way up. Almost like a race horse would in a competition, getting closer to the front of the pack. I fully expect him to come in and use his athleticism and passion that he has for the sport to be successful."

From Coach Woodruff: "Martim is going to bring an incredible attitude, and just an incredible work ethic. He also brings experience to the program. He's played a lot of ITF tournaments, played around internationally, so he has a lot of experience. Super demeanor. In the recruiting process, one of the things that stood out to me was just how happy-go-lucky he was, and how much he talked about wanting to play at the next level. I just think he's going to be the quintessential team person."

From Coach Woodruff: "Finn was a guy who spoke right off the bat about wanting to create his own path. Timo's had a great college career, and Finn talked about trying to do better than that. He's just really excited to be a part of this program. You're always looking for a lefty. When you get a lefty on the blocks, the stock goes up. A lefty can pose nightmare matchup problems, and different patterns you've got to play."

Tennessee opens the spring dual match slate Saturday, Jan. 19 with a home doubleheader against the Charlotte 49ers. The matches are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
