Three Lady Vols Ranked in Final Fall ITA Rankings
November 14, 2018 | Women's Tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. – Three Tennessee women's tennis players were included in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I National Singles & Doubles Rankings, as released by the organization Wednesday afternoon.
In the doubles rankings, sophomore Kaitlin Staines and senior Sadie Hammond checked in at No. 33. Staines was also featured in the singles rankings at No. 91, while junior Ariadna Riley came in at No. 93.
"Progress in the process to perfection has started us on our journey to winning in the SEC," strength and conditioning coach Brad Roll said. "The girls have all put in consistent training for the past 14 weeks in all aspects of improving their craft."
Roll's strength and conditioning program has been a large part for the Lady Vols' fall success, as the former NFL strength coach has been working with the team since the summer.
During her first fall as a Lady Vol, Staines posted a 6-3 singles record, including an undefeated 3-0 mark at the Tennessee Fall Invite. In doubles, Staines and Hammond went 3-0 when paired together, tallying all three victories at the Tennessee Fall Invite.
"I am beyond thrilled to be ranked in doubles with Kaitlin," Hammond said. "We have only played a few matches together, but we have gotten off to a really strong start.
"After our strong performance at our home tournament, it was evident that our hard work over the last few months has paid off. We have been extremely diligent on court and in the weight room and I believe that our off court training has not only increased our physical, fitness level, but it has allowed our mental toughness to grow tremendously."
Riley posted a 5-2 singles record during the fall and also had a strong showing in the Tennessee Fall Invite, claiming victories in two of three matches.

"My personal success this fall is largely attributed to Coach Roll's relentless pushing in trying to make me the best tennis player I can be, and the growth I've seen both physically and mentally are direct results of this," Riley said. "Our program is incredibly fortunate to have him, and our team is eager to be back out competing under the Power T this spring."
Tennessee's spring season gets underway on Jan. 14 with a home double header against North Alabama. The Lady Vols' full schedule is listed here.Players Mentioned
