October 08, 2018 | Baseball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee baseball moves into its third week of fall practice at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Vols will have four official practices this week after traveling to Emerson, Ga., on Sunday to face Georgia State in their first exhibition game of the fall. UT downed the Panthers, 10-1.
Junior right-handed pitcher Garrett Stallings got the starting nod for the Big Orange and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings while striking out five of his seven batters faced. Seven other pitchers saw action against the Panthers, combining for nine strikeouts while allowing just one run on four hits.
At the plate, Tennessee was led by sophomore outfielder Zach Daniels. The Georgia native went 2-for-3 (.667) with four RBI and launched a three-run homer over the left field wall in the third inning. Pete Derkay (2-for-2), Tanner Kohlhepp (1-for-1), Luc Lipcius (1-for-2), Brandon Trammell (1-for-3, 2 RBI) and Jay Charleston (1-for-4, 1 RBI) also notched hits for Tennessee.Â
Fall ball runs through October and will conclude with the annual Orange and White World Series (Oct. 31-Nov. 2). The schedule also features one more exhibition game against Alabama on Oct. 20. The game will take place before the Tennessee vs. Crimson Tide football game.
UT returns 22 players from last year's squad, including 10 starters (four pitchers/six positional players).
