Tessa Grubbs named conference player of the week while Addisyn Rowe takes home defensive player of the week honors
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- University of Tennessee's Tessa Grubbs was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week and Addisyn Rowe was named Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Grubbs 41 kills (5.13 kills per set) this week were the most she has had in back-to-back matches this season. It included Sunday when she set a new career-high with 27 kills (5.40 kills per set) to help Tennessee back from 2-0 sets down against Georgia. She bested her previous career-high of 25 kills, set earlier this season against East Tennessee State. She had 15 of her 27 kills in final three sets including in the fifth set where she had five kills on eight swings with no errors (.625%).Â
Her 27 kills is the fifth highest total of any SEC player this season, the highest total since Oct. 14. Her 27.5 points is the ninth highest total of any SEC player this season, the highest since Oct. 14.
Also on Wednesday vs. South Carolina, Grubbs finished with a match-high 14 kills in the sweep of South Carolina (4.67 kills/set) which included eight kills in the final frame to close out the win.
On the defensive side, Rowe proved key in the come-from-behind victory over Georgia on Sunday. The sophomore registered a career-high eight blocks in the match which included her final block that ended the match at 15-11 in the fifth set.
She tallied at least one block in six of the eight sets that Tennessee played this week including four in the second set against the Bulldogs. After having 10 blocks (1.25 blocks per set) in total this week, Rowe has now moved into the top 10 in blocks in SEC play (1.00 blocks per set).
