Lady Vol Quotes From Media Day
October 25, 2018 | Women's Basketball
Redshirt-Senior Forward Lou Brown
On not being able to play this year and what she can bring to the team:
"Even though I am not playing this year, I am pretty positive that I am still going to be able to have a strong impact on this team from the sideline. I am just going to do my best to make sure that I am a consistent and supportive voice from the sidelines and making sure they are always giving their best efforts. I am trying to learn right now what a player may need and what they may not need when adversity hits and stuff like that happens. Once we get going, my role is going to continuously change through the season. I am just going to try and be whatever my team needs on that day. It is going to be different whether we are up by 20 or down by 20. I think continuously taking it day-by-day and making sure my teammates are good on the sideline."
On rehabbing and coming back next year:
"At the moment, that is definitely my plan."
On her working on her Master's degree:
"I am currently working on my master's in communication with an emphasis in journalism and electronic media. It works out because the degree will take a little longer."
Junior Center Kamera Harris
On her assessment of the team's identity and strengths:
"I feel like our strength is going to be energy. I feel like we have a young team full of energy, and I think our tempo is going to be fast-paced."
On her personal goals for this season:
"My personal goal is to be the best at whatever my coach needs me to be the best at. Whether that is screening, rebounding, scoring or anything else. My goal is to go out there and produce for my team."
On what she took away from last season that has prepared her for this season:
"I took away a lot from last season. I think the biggest thing I took away from last season is the feeling of the last game against Oregon State and how we felt during that game. After that game, how we felt and not wanting to repeat that."
Sophomore Guard/Forward Rennia Davis
On her assessment of the team's identity and strengths:
"One of our strengths is going to be cohesiveness. I think we have been able to build a bond since the summer time when we first got here. Just being able to play with high energy."
On her personal goals for this season:
"I have several personal goals, but I just want to be the best shooter I can be for myself, and my team."
On what she took away from last season that has prepared her for this season:
"I took away the importance of consistency. I think there were times last year when we were the better team, but we were not giving enough effort so we would get beat."
Senior Guard/Forward Meme Jackson
On her assessment of the team's identity and strengths:
"We are going to be playing fast and up-tempo. Our team is full of a lot of energy. We are just ready to play."
On her personal goals for this season:
"My personal goal is to do what I can to help my team win. Just be the best player I can be and grow from last year."
On what she took away from last season that has prepared her for this season:
"Do not have any regrets. Last year we came up short, and it didn't end the way we wanted. We could have done things differently, but definitely I don't want to have any regrets this year."
Freshman Guard Zaay Green
On how she has been able to assess this team's identity and strengths:
"Our strengths are going to be our quickness, hard-working mindset and defense."
On her personal goals for this season:
"To get All-SEC freshman of the week and year. And of course having A's and B's. Just being a good teammate."
On the biggest transition from high school to college:
"Consistency. Making sure I have a good practice the next day and day after that and next week. Time management off the court."
Freshman Guard/Forward Rae Burrell
On her assessment of the team's identity and strengths:
"I think one of our strengths is going to be transition, because we are pretty fast. Shooting, also, because we have some good shooters."
On her personal goals for this season:
"When I get in the game, just work as hard as possible, and I want to average around four rebounds a game."
On the biggest transition from high school to college:
"Definitely on the court, the level of speed of play and the aggressiveness of play. For off the court, probably just time management and being at appointments on time and getting to class on time too."
Freshman Guard Jazmine Massengill
On her assessment of the team's identity and strengths:
"The system is definitely different from what it is in high school. It has taught me a lot. I think I can bring to the team my athleticism and being a leader."
On her personal goals for this season:
"To learn because I am a freshman, so I don't have everything figured out. My goal is to learn and be the best person I can be for the team."
On the biggest transition from high school to college:

Sophomore Center Kasiyahna Kushkituah
On her assessment of the team's identity and strengths:
"Definitely full of guards and mobile posts that are very versatile. We are very aware of what we have."
On her personal goals for this season:
"My personal goal this season is just to win and continue to grow and to get better every day."
On what she took away from last season that has prepared her for this season:
"Just studying film and watching. Gaining information and working every day in practice to see what role I had to fill in. Just me being able to sit back and watch and improve on the court and off the days."
Freshman Forward Mimi Collins
On her assessment of the team's identity and strengths:
"Our identities are that we are very competitive. Even though we are young, we love to compete. We might seem young, but we don't act young in certain situations. We love to win. We are very united as a team. We share the ball and are very team-oriented. We are just like sisters on and off the court. I think this upcoming season should be fun, because we have a lot of excitement to bring to us and we are just a really great team that works together."
On her personal goals for this season:
"I need to win with my teammates of course. But my personal goals would be to make any type of SEC teams or just be with my team and make it far into the tournament."
On the biggest transition from high school to college:
"I would say the details of the game because in high school, you don't really break down the little details but in college you do. I would say the speed of it because in college we are 10x faster than the high school game. The older you get and higher level you are, the faster and more difficult the game is."
