Baseball Fall Practice Schedule: Week 5

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee baseball moves into its fifth week of fall practice at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Vols will have four official practices this week after playing Alabama in the final exhibition game of the fall on Sunday. UT and the Crimson Tide played one full game plus two extra innings of traditional ball and then played seven innings of situational baseball.Â
Junior right-handed pitcher Garrett Stallings and sophomore lefty Garrett Crochet each threw two innings for Tennessee in the first game. The duo allowed just one run and combined for four strikeouts. Five other pitchers saw action against the Tide, combining for four strikeouts while allowing five runs on 11 hits.
At the plate, Tennessee was led by junior Ricky Martinez (2-for-3), junior outfielder Justin Ammons (2-for-4) and junior infielder Jay Charleston (2-for-4). Martinez hit a two-run double in the fourth inning and added two runs of his own during the game while Ammons reached base four times. The Tennessee native scored in three of those instances. Charleston recorded two RBIs in the outing. Connor Pavolony (1-for-2, 1 RBI), Brandon Trammell (1-for-1) and Zach Daniels (1-for-2) also notched hits for Tennessee.Â
Fall ball runs through October and will conclude with the annual Orange and White World Series (Oct. 31-Nov. 2).Â
UT returns 22 players from last year's squad, including 10 starters (four pitchers/six positional players).
