KNOXVILLE, TENN. - Tennessee Rowing kicks off its 2018-19 campaign this weekend with boats competing at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass. and the Secret City Head Race in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
At the Head of the Charles, the Lady Vols will compete in three events over the weekend. On Saturday, UT will race in the Club 4+ at 1:53 p.m. and the Club 8+ at 2:33 p.m. The Championship 4+ boat will hit the course at 1:38 p.m. on Sunday.
The Head of the Charles is the largest rowing event in the country and features a three-mile head race upstream from Boston University Boathouse to Christian Herter Park. Each race has a rolling start and the crew with the fastest time wins. Last year, Tennessee's Club 4+ finished third out of 50 entries, the Club 8+ took 11th and the Championship 4+ placed fifth.
In Oak Ridge, UT has seven boats in action across two events. The Tennessee novices start the day at 11:40 a.m. in the Novice 8+ race with five boats competing. The Collegiate 8+ starts at 1 p.m. with two entries for the Big Orange.
A live stream for the Head of the Charles is available at http://www.rowingchannel.com/ and results of the Secret City Head Race will be posted at https://herenow.com/results/#/races/20545/results.
