Lady Vols look for second tournament victory in a row in San Antonio, Texas
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee women's golf team is set for Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
The field features nine teams including five from the state of Texas including the hosts in University of Texas-San Antonio. The Lady Vols come into their fourth tournament of the season with momentum after winning the Starmount Classic by 35 strokes in their last start.
Freshman Malia Stovall slides into the top spot in the Tennessee lineup after winning the individual title by six strokes in Greensboro, N.C. Stovall was joined by four other Lady Vols in the top 10 at the Starmount Classic as all five of those players will be in the Maryb S. Kauth lineup.
This includes senior Ariana Macioce who played in the Starmount Classic as an individual but, will play out of the No. 5 position this week. This is the second time this season Macioce will be in the lineup as she also played for Tennessee in the season-opening Cougar Classic.
Sophomore Waverly Whiston will also travel to Texas playing this week as an individual. She has played in every tournament this season for the Lady Vols.
Tomorrow's first round is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. (ET) with the Lady Vols paired with Houston and TCU for the first round.
The Lady Vols' Lineup
Malia Stovall
The freshman from Winchester, Tenn. will make her third start for the Lady Vols after winning her first collegiate tournament at the Starmount Classic. Stovall was the only player in the field to card three rounds under par, pacing her to a six-shot victory in Greensboro.
Mikayla Bardwell
Bardwell stays near the top of the lineup after her second straight top 10 finish at the Starmount Classic. The freshman tied for fourth in Greensboro which bested her seventh place finish at the Mercedes-Benz.
Mariah Smith
Smith also tied for fourth at the Starmount Classic as she was helped by a 3-under-par performance in the final round of the tournament. She was one of just three players in the field to card a round in the 60s and the only on the Tennessee team.
Micheala Williams
The Athens, Ala. native will make her fourth start of the season after helping Tennessee win the Starmount Classic tying for 10th on the individual leaderboard. The junior was aided by a third round score of 2-under. She was one of five players in the field to turn in a score under par in the final round.
Ariana Macioce
The senior plays in her fourth event of the season and the second as a part of the starting five. Macioce was consistent all week in Greensbor, N.C. carding a pair of 74 (+2) before turning in a final round of 73 (+1) to tie Williams for 10th on the leaderboard.
Lady Vol Individual
Waverly Whiston
The sophomore was one of six players to place inside of the top 20 at the Starmount Classic. Her first and second rounds of 75 and 74 helped pace the Lady Vols to their big lead in Greenboro as she tied for 17th on the individual leaderboard.
