Vols Breeze Through Day One of ITA Ohio Valley Regional

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee men's tennis program combined for an 8-1 record Thursday afternoon as the Vols hosted the opening rounds of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships at Goodfriend Tennis Center.

UT began the regional tournament winning two of three doubles matches Thursday morning. 11th-seeded Pat Harper/Andrew Rogers posted an 8-4 win over Rodriguez/Carr (Northern Kentucky), while two-seeds Timo Stodder/Preston Touliatos dispatched Cutting/Patzanovsky (Memphis), 8-4.

The Vols went unbeaten in singles play, as six players advanced to Friday's Round of 64. Stodder (Berlin, Germany), the top-seeded singles player in the region, cruised past Chris Murray of Northern Kentucky in straight sets by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Touliatos (Birmingham, Ala.) followed his fellow senior co-captain with a convincing win over Ball State's Thibault DeNegri, 6-2, 6-1.
Rogers (Brentwood, Tenn.) kept the momentum going for the Vols, taking a straight-sets win over Clement Filho of Louisville, 6-3, 6-4. Scott Jones (Perth, Australia) added another quick victory for the Vols, topping NKU's Blaine Carr 6-2, 6-1.
UT junior Luca Wiedenmann (Munich, Germany) picked up Tennessee's fifth consecutive straight-sets victory with a 7-6(4), 7-5 triumph over Max Rauch of MTSU. Harper (Brisbane, Austalia) rounded out a perfect day of singles for the Vols in three sets, taking care of Belmont's Joan Valy 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
