KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee track and field program opens the new year with the Tennessee-Indiana Dual on Saturday, Jan. 6, at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Indiana.

Tentative Schedule of EventsSaturday's dual will feature 28 events and start at noon ET with the women's long jump, women's pole vault, women's weight throw and women's 60-meter hurdles. The two teams will renew a rivalry that dates to 1978 as the two squads will compete for the 23rd time. The men's squads matched up 18 times in the 1980's and 90's. In 2016, the two schools renewed the rivalry that had been dormant since 1999. The UT men hold a 14-8 advantage while the Tennessee women hold a 9-3-1 edge in 13 all-time meetings.
The Vols return to Bloomington just under one month after an impressive showing at Hoosier Open. Tennessee opened its indoor season on Dec. 8 with six wins at Indiana's home meet.
The UT women combined for three victories. Maia McCoy won the 200 meters in 24.27. Junior Stamatia Scarvelis finished first in the shot put with a career-long toss of 17.77 meters on her sixth and final attempt. Senior Cidae'a Woods won the long jump with a leap of 6.08 meters on her fourth attempt.
The Tennessee men posted three wins as well. Junior Kwantreyl McConico, who transferred to UT from Alabama-Huntsville, took the 200 meters with a meet-record time of 21.35. Freshman Jalen Tate won the triple jump with a leap of 14.96 meters on his first try. The quartet of junior Ari Cogdell, McConico, junior Darryl Harris and senior Nathan Strother raced to a win in the 4x400 with a meet-record time of 3:10.88.
On the men's side, UT has eight marks that rank in the top 20 nationally. McConico's 21.35 in the 200 meters last month is tied for the fifth-fastest time in the nation. The UT men's 4x400 time of 3:10.88 also ranks fifth nationally. Darryl Sullivan's 2.11 meters (6-11.00) in the high jump at the Hoosier Open is tied for the 13th-best height in the nation. Jalen Tate ranks 13th in the country with a long jump of 14.96 meters (49-1.00). UT has two top-20 throwers in the shot put in Jordan West, who is ninth with 18.10 meters (59-4.75), and Joseph Maxwell, who is 16th at 17.62 meters (57-9.75). In the weight throw, Matthew Zajac is tied for sixth with a throw of 20.52 meters (67-4.00) and Seth Whitener is eighth with a toss of 20.45 meters (67-1.25).
The Tennessee women have nine top-20 marks. Woods owns the nation's top mark in the long jump at 6.08 meters (19-11.50). Scarvelis leads the nation in the shot put with a toss of 17.77 meters (58-3.75) and ranks second in the weight throw at 21.05 meters (69-0.75). McCoy is tied for the third-fastest time in the 60 meters at 7.39 and Shania Collins ranks 11th at 7.48. McCoy also ranks fifth nationally in the 200 meters with a time of 24.27. In the 60-meter hurdles, Domonique Turner is fourth in the country at 8.40 and Kiara Rhodes is tied for 10th at 8.47. The UT women's 4x400 of Felecia Majors, McCoy, Lenysse Dyer and Deja Parrish ranks ninth at 3:45.84.
