Tennessee in Seventh After Two Rounds

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- To tee off the season, Tennessee women's golf concluded the first two rounds of the Ocean Course Invitational in seventh place (594, +10) on Monday.

Florida State and Ole Miss took the lead early in the first round, each posting an even-par 292. The Rebels topped the field in round two by carding 292 to remain even on the day. Florida State finished the day in second place while N.C. State and North Carolina held steady in a tie for third.

Senior Blakesly Warren and sophomore Micheala Williams got off to a hot start in the first round for the Vols, collecting eight birdies between them. As a team, Tennessee began the two-round day in the top-five spots of the leaderboard, but late bogeys moved the Orange and White into seventh place.

With only 10 strokes separating the Big Orange and first place, Tennessee is positioned for a strong finish on Tuesday.

Williams led UT throughout the day with an even-par 146 (72-74), tying for ninth place. The Alabama native began the finished the first round with three birdies and added three more to her count in the second.

Also in the top-20, Warren carded rounds of 73 and 75 (148, +2)to tie for 20th place. Fellow senior Anna Newell tied for 25th place after shooting 149 (+3).

Making their collegiate debuts, freshmen Mariah Smith (155, +9) and Waverly Whiston (157, +11) finished the day tied for 52nd and 59th place, respectively.

Junior transfer Ariana Macioce competed as an individual for Tennessee. In her first two rounds with the Big Orange, Macioce tied for 52nd place (155, +9) with Smith.
