WEST POINT, Miss. -- Tennessee women's golf heads to West Point, Mississippi, this weekend for the Magnolia Invitational. The tournament runs from Sunday, Oct. 1 through Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Old Waverly Golf Club (par 72, 6,320 yards).
The field features 10 teams, including five SEC programs. Mississippi State and Ole Miss are co-hosting Auburn, Augusta, Kansas State, LSU, Memphis, Southern Miss, Tennessee and Troy.

Tournament Format
- The Magnolia Invitational will be played in an 18-18-18 format with the practice round beginning on Saturday.
- Round one will begin at 8:30 a.m.ET on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 8:30 a.m. ET with each group teeing off Hole 1.
- On Monday, Oct. 2, the second round will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET from Holes 1 and 10.
- The final round is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. ET in a shotgun start. The awards presentation will immediately follow the round.
Tournament History
- The 2017 Magnolia Invitational marks the inaugural tournament of a partnership between Mississippi State and Ole Miss women's golf programs to create a landmark event in SEC golf and a destination tournament for the top teams in the nation.
- Old Waverly's 18-hole championship course excels, having been named to Golfweek's Top 100, Golf Digest's Top Course in Mississippi for multiple years and Golf Digest's Top 100 courses.
- Since 1990, Old Waverly has hosted numerous events including the men's and women's SEC Championship, Southern Golf Association Women's and Junior Championships, the 2006 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, as well as the 1999 U.S. Women's Open.
- In 2019, the top women's players in the nation will take on the course as it hosts the prestigious U.S. Women's Amateur.

- Top Returnees:
- Senior Anna Newell played in 11 tournaments carding a stroke average of 73.97 and a team-leading eight top 25 finishes during her junior campaign. She shot five sub-70 rounds including two during the SEC Championship en route to recording a 17th place finish on the Greystone Course. This season, she boasts a 71.17 stroke average through two tournaments and top-three finish at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship.
- Senior Blakesly Warren competed in 11 tournaments with a stroke avg. of 73.53 and seven top 25 finishes in 2016, including a third place finish at the 2017 Auburn vs. Tennessee Challenge. She was tabbed the SEC Player of the Week on March 22, 2017 after carding an eighth place finish at the 3M Augusta Invitational. In her most recent tournament this season, she tied for 14th place with a score of 212 (-1).
- Sophomore Micheala Williams played in 11 tournaments with a stroke average of 74.03 in her first year with the Orange and White. She carded 10 rounds of par or better and placed in the top 25 four times. Most notably, she carded three birdies in her last four holes of the 2017 SEC Championship to place seventh. At the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in September, Williams recorded 222 (+9) to tie for 43rd place.
- Program Notes:
- In the team's first tournament of 2017-18, UT tied for fifth place (893), while Anna Newell and Micheala Williams placed in the top 16 individually. Overall, the Vols shot five rounds of par or better.
- The Lady Vols closed out the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship with a final round of 280 (-4) to jump into third place. Newell also placed third in the tournament.
- Tennessee's two freshmen ranked among the top-50 players in the 2017 signing class: No. 19 Waverly Whiston and No. 50 Mariah Smith.
- Whiston was named a freshman to watch on Golfweek's Preseason Top 10 Freshmen List in September.
- Head Coach Judi Pavon is in her 18th season at the helm of the program. Under her tutelage, Tennessee has reached 10 NCAA Championships in the last 14 years and posted a winning record in all but one season. The Vols have also had success in the classroom as the team posted the highest GPA (3.79) in both women's golf and Tennessee Athletics history during the 2017 season.
- Since the program's first regional bid in 1993, the Vols have qualified for the NCAA postseason every year with 2017 marking Tennessee's 25th consecutive appearance.
