DALLAS — Tennessee senior David Heron and sophomore Taylor Abbott were honored with the Open Water Excellence Award at the United States Aquatic Sports Convention last weekend.Â
Heron and Abbott were among the four U.S. open water entrants at the World University Games this summer but did not compete because of high water temperatures last month in Taipei.Â
It has been another banner summer for Heron in open water competition. Heron won the 5K at the U.S. Open Water Nationals in May and Abbott took sixth in Castaic Lake, California.Â
In July, Heron competed for a second time at the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia. He placed 10th in the 5K.Â
Tennessee begins the 2017-18 swimming and diving season on Sept. 29 with the Orange and White Intrasquad Meet.Â
