Vol Hoops Begins European Tour
August 03, 2017 | Men's Basketball
BARCELONA - The Tennessee basketball team arrived safely in Barcelona, Spain, Thursday morning, marking the start of a 10-day European tour.
The Volunteers also will visit Valencia, Spain, and Paris before returning to the United States Aug. 12. Tennessee will play an exhibition game against local professional competition in all three cities along the way.
Thursday's arrival in Barcelona--via an eight-hour flight from Atlanta--marked the first trip outside the United States (excluding the Caribbean) for eight Vols.
Assistant coach Desmond Oliver met the Vols at the airport in Barcelona Thursday morning; he had been recruiting at a FIBA event in Slovakia.
The Vols weren't the only college basketball team embarking on international trips Wednesday. The Tennessee travel party crossed paths with the Butler and NC State men's teams as well as the Indiana women's team in the international terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Interestingly, UT and NC State will see each other again when they travel to the Bahamas for the eight-team Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in November.
The Vols began their day Thursday with a walking tour of the "Las Ramblas" district of Barcelona. Then after lunch, the team conducted a light practice at Ajuntament de Barcelona.
